Oh shid, I'm supposed to pick something.

Uh, I am stuck between two types of picks:
1. Two games I played when I was a kid which I have fond memories of but which are almost definitely shit games if I went back to play them now
2. Two games I've never played but which actually look pretty good, and I'd like to play some day

I'm going to go with the first type:
Mission: Impossible

This game tried to do SO many things and was WAY ahead of its time IMO. If it were cleaned up and polished a bit, I genuinely think it could be a great game.

@Jon
I had it and played soo much of it. Plenty of content, and like you said, it did so many cool secret agent things that none of the Bond games or other secret agent ones had done yet. Though, I do remember the controls being fairly annoying in it already as a kid, so I didn't consider picking it.

Jet Force Gemini

@BigDaddy
Dangit. T'was one of my potential last two picks. Luckily I still got a couple.

M:I was one of the games meant for the ill-fated 64 disc drive that never came out in america and only had ten games that did come out for it

i’m stealing this joke from a tumblr post but call me nintendo the way my 64DDs flop
This is the deep vg lore I come here for

Yeah, the controls were a pain in the ass and I remember some missions were a bit obtuse. I still want to revisit it some day. Never made it as far as the part where you drop through the lasers, I think.

so many games were in 64DD development hell at some point. not just ones that did eventually come out either on the n64 (both zeldas) or elsewhere (diablo, unreal, SEAMAN) but ones that were cancelled outright (simcopter 64) or rebuilt for the gamecube (cubivore, resident evil zero) or GBA (fire emblem: the one with roy, mother 3)

i would read an 800 page oral history of the 64DD lol

I've been toying with the idea of starting a retro vg Tiktok channel simply because I feel the need to at least TRY to get something back from what I've put into collecting, and this is the sort of weird and interesting stuff I wanna post about

NBA Hangtime

One of my favorite sports games on the system. The third installment in the NBA Jam series, it introduced alley oops, double dunks, team fire, and create-a-player. A sports game from that generation that I feel like I could easily pick up and play today and still have fun. Besides the offensive fireworks, even just blocking shots/dunks on defense was so satisfying.

Last two for me. Here we gooo!

Killer Instincts Gold

If you're not super into Mortal Kombat, I'd say this one is the best fighter on the console. At least I liked the hell out of it. Never had it myself, but a friend of mine did. Plenty of fun.

Snowboard Kids 2

Real fun arcade snowboard racing game. Loosely Mario Kart adjacent, but you're going downhill, grabbing the ski lift up for the next lap. The second one expanded on everything the first one did, so it's the defacto better one.

Still haven't named one of my favorites...which is way better than the silly Cruis'n games.
I'm waiting on a specific game to be drafted, but I'm not going to draft it because I already have 4 racing games on my roster.

I wonder if it's the same game as yours.

Edit: There are actually two games I'm still kinda surprised haven't been drafted yet. There's a third racing game that people may or may not remember.

You know... I struggled more than I thought I would with this last pick. I have 3 that would be considered honorable mentions if they don't get picked. But I suppose I'll have to take one that I consider one of the best of all time.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2

@Smacktard
Good, this finally got drafted.

THPS2 is a better game than the first one, but #1 holds a high spot on my personal list on the N64.

Oh shit, I was going to draft THPS2 last round but I forgot. That's a killer pick-up this late. Snowboard Kids 2 was what I had planned for this round so I'm kinda stuck.

I guess I'll go with Star Wars: Battle for Naboo.

I've never played it, but it's supposed to be just like Rogue Squadron, and that is an awesome game.

Sorry. Having a Day.

I think poke stadium 1 and jet force Gemini wiped out the last games from my personal collection. Might’ve gone for thps2. Just deleted my choice for a fun mp racer that’s still available, but Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 has to be the pick - good single player, good multiplayer. And I’m done. Unless that deleted round 8 rematerialises, of course.

Tony Hawk 3 on the N64 has the distinction of being the most expensive copy of any Tony Hawk game on the secondary market today (not including special editions and bundles).

The cart alone will cost around 60 bucks. You can get the game for the Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube for under 15 bucks complete (individually, of course).

It also seems to look better than the PS1 version. I have the N64 version, no you can't have it.

@Tommy Boy your turn.
