I agree with your take on ME2 completely. Mind you, I haven't played it since 2010.

I've always thought one of the reasons for the lack of political stuff is simply the difficulty of branching out too many multiple paths. I do think you'll see the constraints around that more clearly in 3 even as the game does a much better job than most games of giving players choices.

How did the mission go?

Yup! Already it felt like they were painting themselves into a bit of a corner. Especially with all of the new characters available in ME2. I wonder how they'll treat them in the next game. I expect most of their whereabouts will be reduced to a paragraph explanation.
How did the mission go?
No deaths, although a confession: I looked up the "solution". I think I likely wouldn't have had any deaths anyway, because the solutions were pretty obvious, but still... It highlights another small issue I have. I wanted the trophy for no deaths, and I didn't want to have to repeat the whole game or reload an old save if I made the wrong decision. I appreciate the variety of outcomes, and I'm curious about how they would be handled, but not curious enough to play through a 30 hour game again
