the year was idfk 2010? the point is I just found SWYPE.
the best keyboard of all time. the introduction of a feature that now exists on all keyboards (glide typing, swipe typing, whatever bullshit ios calls it).
but that wasn't it, and as @The Eye in the Sky! will attest because I converted him, it had far and away the best predictive text engine I've ever used. TO THIS DAY!
ANYWAY.
see that caps lock there? that was accidental because Swype would have known I didn't need caps lock anymore on the second line.
seriously, it was so good that for YEARS after the app was discontinued, I found ways to side load it. in the last year, even using modded versions.
(I paid for the app multiple times over through the years. even bought themes. I deserved to find a way to still use it damnit!)
anyway, then I upgraded my phone... and blahblah 32 bit app on a 64 bit system blah blah. without the source code to upgrade it to 64 bit, it is dead dead DEAD as of android 18 or whatever version this is
but that's not even the Minor inconvenience
see over the years, I have made genuine attempts to find a new keyboard I like. Gboard, Samsung's default, Swiftkey, open key, you name it I've tried it. they all failed, then id find some way to side load Swype and move on with my life.
but now it's dead.
so now I NEED a new keyboard. I even resorted to chatgpt to try and help me find the nearest match that existed. I couldn't
first I started with Samsung default because why not? and plus thanks to GoodLock (if you don't have it Samsung users, get it), I can customize so much of it I damn near got it close to Swype for muscle memory at least.
but the way the dictionary was handled was driving me kinda mental.
but it had some really nice features that made up for it. the way the keyboard will copy an OTP from an incoming text message and allow me to instantly paste it in, automatic clip board pasting, things of that nature
samsung even has the ability to typo check an entire document at once, once you start checking words, it runs through them all.
but the dictionary/auto correct was griping me.
so enter Gboard
okay, this has a lot of the same integration features as samsung, obviously, plus lots of other handy tricks. it's less customizable so there's been a decade+ learning curve to undo, and still working on that.
but the predictive text and auto correction has been really good, it has some minor features that mimic other minor features from Swype. it's... not bad, even safe to say I like it and it's working for me.
but none of that is the Minor inconvenience.
the Minor inconvenience is that this fucking keyboard doesn't have a shortcut to mass delete text. it's like a 4 step process, and the hold to delete is incredibly slow.
there's a feature on Gboard, under glide typing (hi Swype!) called "Swype to delete".
that feature does not exist on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
yup. yup.
what annoys you guys?
