Nope I'm back to Zell being the cupided townie. That would be a smart play. If you can get a townie to take out another townie to help with your numbers.
That would be deadly because he could kill a townie on any night phase to help keep the game balanced and bring the numbers down quicker. And he could always be like "whoops, my bad, I really thought they were suspicious."

Might be more dangerous now that the town is aware of cupid, though.

I am starting to think it's pretty silly to come up with a list of numbers or fake names for night one. Might as well just ask each player if they choose to use their power blindly or not, and if they say yes then just do an RNG for them. Like:

"You are the aura seer. Would you like to use your power tonight?"
"Yes I would."
"Your seer check landed on Ants!. He has evil aura."

Less work for the GM and less confusion overall.

Definitely this, but also there can be strategy beyond picking particular players. Maybe you want to avoid targeting the same player that others will target. Maybe you'd like to target the same one. Choosing by some method besides RNG gives you a chance to do that.

Yeah, but the entire purpose of switching to Numbers, and then from there are switching to random nouns was specifically to avoid everybody having a bias towards the same player. I would think that you want to eliminate that entirely otherwise what's the point? Like Ben often reminds us, several people went for the word quartz just because it started with a Q and that was a problem.

Also, I hadn't realized that the jailer only gets one kill. That's cool, otherwise he would be OP come to think of it.

Not exactly. The purpose was to prevent people always targeting the same player across games. Every time certain people played (I think Cole was the biggest victim of this), everybody who could kill would target them on the first night. So even if he was town, a townie would kill him night zero just in case he was evil, because he was good at leading wolves to a win. And even if that didn't happen, the wolves would kill him when he wasn't a wolf. So he never even got to play, which wasn't fun.

Speaking as the person who got assigned "quartz", I'm fine with how that happened. The occasional being slaughtered by every team for no real reason is hilarious. It's only not fun if it happens a lot and especially if you feel like you're being punished for being a good player.

when i worked in an office, me and a pal would go halves on blat ingredients and make them at work each day. not that you need an awesome kitchen to make a blat but it was such an awesome kitchen for an office. we made roast chicken (and all the sides) a couple of times too.

i think canadaguy should get some sort of badge for being the most protected target of all time

Quartz got all the delegates.
Quartz got so much love because it stood out from the other words. It sounded out of place on the list. People might not even realize that's why they would pick it. It was kind of a mentalist type of trick to get people to pick the thing you want.

Think of it this way: if you're a seer and don't want your target to be dead by morning, you can avoid numbers six and nine. If you're a sheriff and want to see a murderer, maybe you go for those numbers. You keep some strategy without any particular person getting picked on repeatedly.

However with the random words method, there's a much lesser chance of a QUARTZ situation where whoever got 6 or 9 gets dogpiled.

Screws over the wolves if either of those numbers are on their team (all the seer checks). It's the whole reason why zell switched it to random words after the wolves had both 6 and 9 and were basically screwed from the beginning.

But meh, whatever. If people really want a placebo button that badly then I'm not against them having one.

Sure. But if all the seers say they want to check somebody, and the GM rolls to choose who, and they happen to roll for two wolves, it's the same situation. RNG will sometimes fuck you, that's just the nature of RNG.
 
Or just make a meta where no one knows if they're a wolf. Everyone gets a villager/solo role and everyone submits a nightly kill.

Only the wolf kills will be accounted for at night.
Seems bad because the only way to kill wolves will be either seer checks or complete random luck. The whole idea of the game besides using whatever powers you have is to try to read people's behaviors, and nobody is going to act any differently or suspiciously if they don't know whether they're a wolf or not. Could be a fun meta game maybe, but not a regular game because it eliminates one huge aspect of the game.
