took advantage of a betmgm promo to turn a 10 dollar investment into a 130 dollar boon, entering the rare category of people to have bet on the charlotte hornets and won. now i can get sonic x shadow generations (every time i want a new video game i pick a new betting app promo where they give you 200 bucks in monopoly money or whatever for making a 5 or 10 dollar initial bet. this is also how i got college football 25 lol. betmgm is my third gambling app and thus far i have turned 20 dollars total into about 500 smackeroos. gambling is good actually)

oh i didn't notice this thread and i see fq is gambling too so i'll immigrate here

hi in this thread i am going to talk about gambling sometimes now. i have more pocket money so i've started again, and it's almost always on the nba.

I'm also gonna just use not American odds, because you guys always choose to do the most stupid systems. If I say something is $5, it means that if I bet $10 on it that I'd get paid $50.

I've put a bit of money on the Celtics to win the season. They're just very good, and $4 is more than enough for me.

I also took Dyson Daniels (before the season started) to be the steals leader for $41. Just a tenner on that one though.

Then I took a tenner on a choice of ~12 teams, picking their overs and unders for win totals.

Will be hoping to watch a lot more bball, to go in hand with the betting. Early days of course so I'm only betting quite small amounts to remember the buttons, but I'm also finding the teams to target, and the teams to avoid, and the players too. If you reckon you find a trend with a player you watch a lot, even if you don't bet, I'd love to hear it.

I bet in a range of 1 unit, up to 5 units, depending on confidence. I'd be lying if I didn't sometimes put a 25u bet on too though, but I usually take that out of my pocket money rather than my gambling money.

So I've started with 100 units - and I will add more cash to that so the units will become larger, and the goal is of course to win - but also to just stay even.

I'm up to 124 units so far after some relatively straight forward wins in the days that've gone so far.

i'm up to 165 units now. @Fire Queen you gonna take the Hornets again? It's just the Hawks!

i would actually but i’m all out of house money so i’m done gambling for now! at least until my next luxury purchase i want. across the three gambling apps i’ve used, on a total investment of 25 actual dollars i’ve made a 2,715% ROI :cool2

This is some perspective. Not exclusive to basketball, other sports too... but holy fucking shit... 64 MILLION a year... that's insane. I would take a FRACTION of that and care for my family for my lifetime. I love sports, but the money these guys get to play that some of us play for fun is absurd.

i actually think chuck is wrong (i love charles) but it's just easy to shit talk embiid here (also i don't even like embiid)

first, it's probably harder to be an nba player than any job he just mentioned. the qualification to get there is so massive.

people don't have to offer embiid that much money. but they still do it, even knowing that he's injury prone and what not. also, it's not like he's only playing basketball... gotta practice, trainingg, exercise, and do weights. then in general, everything he does is with his basketball career in mind.

we don't hear from embiid or the sixers really on this, but they could have an understanding and want to prolong embiids career. or give him a better chance to be available for more important games.

embiid is also underpaid for the value he provides. i didn't know you were anti workers!!!

also none of this will even matter because it's not like he's going to stay healthy anyway, and even if he did he still will choke in the playoffs.

It was more a general sentiment than this specific one. Baseball is the same way. Their contracts are absurd for what is the least physical and least dangerous of any major sport.

While the "clubs" are exclusive and only the top and the elite get in, I don't think it's fair for them to get what they do.

Separate example? The Microsoft CEO just got a 30 MILLION bonus. This after two major game studios and thousands of layoffs occurred. He shouldn't get a bonus and that 30 mil would have MORE than paid the salaries of those let go. The absurdity of the pay level gap (in America specifically), is getting worse. People like the Microsoft CEO get to go buy another multimillion dollar yacht while his workers toil away for minimum wage and barely make ends meet.

It's precisely where this country has gone wrong and sports are a microcosm of that.

i get the general sentiment, it does feel like the money is way out of whack and stuff... but it's really just the money though isn't it?

i don't think using the ceo as another example is an example of the same thing we're talking about here. the ceo gets to fire all the people doing the work and reap big money. the nba player is doing the work.

and why isn't it fair for them to get the money if an outrageous amount of people are paying to see them do what they do?

i don't like this argument as a way of talking about how unfairly very important jobs like nurses are treated in society. it's almost not relevant and serves as a distraction. it's got nothing to do how much embiid makes or earns as to how unfair it is that nurses and teachers are so undervalued. that goes back to politics, which athletes being paid a certain amount or not playing enough has no bearing on.

Meh, I just posted a general sentiment in NBA because the corroborating video was about the NBA. I hear what your saying, though. Best served keep this particular topic to the NBA, the rest in another forum as needed.

Speaking of though (and again I don't follow NBA), wasn't Embiid the 1 or 2 overall that people were calling a bust because he just couldn't stay healthy? Or maybe I'm thinking Greg Odom? Or both... I dunno.

oh there's no drama here jon just chatting, hope you're not stressing it.

do you considered injured/injury prone players busts? always gotta make sure you're on the same page before applying the labels - i don't want to call a player a bust cause they're injured (the pick used on them is the bust). Greg Oden (you may be thinking of Lamar Odom) was very injured, never got a good shot at the nba. Embiid is often injured, has had bad injuries, but still was a very good player (who also was choking like crazy any time in the playoffs)

Nah, no drama and no stress at all! I just realized you're right. Where I chose to post that, the conversation was swinging in the wrong direction for the intent. Kind of two convos in one.

Not exclusively I don't, no. But if you can't stay healthy, then you can't produce at the level you were drafted for. So while skill definitely has to be included, I think someone who can't be on the field CAN be a bust.

I was thinking Oden then. Like 1st overall and then never played?

Side note, I do think that you're right in terms of semantics of the player may not be the bust, but the pick is.

Like a first overall pick that is always injured but very good when they play? Not necessarily a bust, but the pick is.

Demarcus Russell? Completely a bust.

Anthony Bennett? Weak year for sure, but definitely a bust.

Oden played a small amount but it'd be fair to say he barely played, nothing impactful. That was around when I was first into the NBA, and I could only keep up with west coast teams (NZ timezones etc). Brandon Roy was my fav player. Damn injuries.

So far, this has been one of the best post seasons I've watched, and I've watched the last however many. The games are being slowed down a bit by the refs and I'm not sure how I feel about what goes on in the reviews anymore, but I'm only not sure - and cause of timezones and work I often let the game play for about a half and then skip all the breaks anyway... So with that in mind, back to how fucken good have these games been?

More competitive series than I’ve seen in a long time

Agreed, but it's not just that. They're going for the epic finishes too. Numbers are being broken in different directions for decent stats (least points in a half? horrific but still great viewing. All road teams winning SF games for the first time ever? Brilliant).

I'm on the rust is worst than no rest camp for game 1 and have spouted this for years... and we the boys took ny and indy to win by less than 11 for both as a multi paying swimmingly. Very lucky to get it of course but what crazy games.

I still have bet wise the Celtics to win, which I took at the start of the season. The other pre season bet I took (besides a 12 leg multi [parley for the heathens] consisting for win total bets) was Dyson Daniels to be the steals leader at sick odds
