In-Session Zip-up Hoodie vs. Pullover

Oyez!

Five score and nine days ago our father @Ants! brought forth in these forums, a new court, conceived in shitposting, and dedicated to the proposition that all opinions are as equally terrible as each other.

Today, it is once again time to bring forth the indomitable might of justice on a topic of paramount importance, as suggested by @Alu. The Zip-up Hoodie stands steadfast in the face of the resilient Pullover.

Who will win? Will @Kat 's claims of strong opinions clash with Alu's boasts of well-formulated thoughts, or will they team up in an unstoppable show of argumentative force?

Hmm...

Pull overs are superior for having things printed on them. A nice uninterrupted canvas makes them real nice for band logos, etc.

But zip-ups are far more convenient to get on/off and give you a range of options in so far as how warm you are depending on if if it's zipped, sleeves up, etc.

If I think of which hoodies are my favorites, it's always been zip-up ones.

My starting arguments:

There are merits to both, depending on the situation. Need something quick for when you're going outside (say a walk of the dog)? Zip up is a comfier option than a coat that's easy to put on. Just put shit in your hair? Zip up.

End of the day and going for ultimate comfort? Big old pull over is the way to go. Same for extra warmth...something about not having the zipper there makes it feel warmer. So going to a sports game in the late fall? Probably pull over territory.

I often will wear a zip up during my work day, and then switch to a pull over once the day is over and until I go to bed (obviously just talking winter and colder times here). I tend to have zip ups that are better fitting and look "neater" because of that. Not needing to pull It over your head means it's easier to get that going for sizing.

Zip-up hoodies.

I shave my head.

Pullovers aren’t easy to “pull over” the Velcro-like texture of a freshly shaved dome.

Also… pullovers for long hair? The other half cites static as an issue.

I despise the feel of polyester, TBH, even when excluding the static issue.

All of my old hi-vis stuff was polyester, and the sound alone would irritate me to no end. I’m one of THOSE people. If I got in a vehicle the wrong way and it had that microfiber friction as I moved around… nooope.

Acrylic is my go-to synthetic fiber. Less static, doesn't feel weird to touch. Mostly durable. Better at keeping one warm.

Polyester is pretty much just plastic mascarading as a cloth.

Agreed, and the weave is typically more durable with acrylic blends. Polyester shreds over less time.

I like both.

Though I tend to find zip-ups more convenient, as you got two middle pockets instead of one big one. And definitely if you story anything in the big middle one it'll always hand down and potentially ding you on the nuts.

Retro video game boners. That's more or less Kelly's thing, I suppose.

You might be able to James Woods him. Lure him him in with all kinds of classic titles, then trap him in a box.
Hey now, I'm on to you! Although, I bet if I'm quick, I can just grab just a few of those classics and get out before the trap shuts....

There ain’t nothing like having a wrench swing dangerously close to the goods to remind you of your own mortality. Valid point for the laborers out there that make use of pockets instead of tool belts.

Zip up all the way. Pull overs choke fat people like me and I'm not into S&M

That’s another thing… I don’t like how tight pullovers are on my neck, and I’m not even fluffy, I just have a bigger neck than manufacturers assume a size XL hoodie would require.

You guys can get stuff to stay in those big pouches?? It's never seemed very secure to me. It's more a place to put your hands than to put your stuff, IMO. So I prefer pockets on zip ups because they're actually pockets, and they often also zip up so nothing can fall out.

I hate how tight pullovers always are around the neck. With a zipper, I can open it up.

Pullovers mess with my hair. It's not that they're staticky, just that they're tight enough around the neck to catch everything, especially when I'm taking it off.

Zip ups can be adjusted if you're going between warmer and cooler areas, or sometimes being more active than other times. Pullovers are all or nothing.

IMO pullovers have no redeeming qualities.

Lol, only so often. Stuff does stay inside it fairly well when you're doing things that require you to be upright and standing straight, but the second you bend or lean any which way there's a fairly decent chance something flies off.

But you gotta use what you got.

For pullovers I've always gotten a size bigger than what my normal is and I've never had any issues. I do definitely see your point though. Though on the same vein, a pullover hoodie is no different than a regular pullover with extra options. What I'm slowly getting to is that it might just be an issue with a specific brand or type of pullover that makes it annoying rather than pullovers in general.

More things to note. Pullover big pocket is much nicer to keep your hands in and warm up. Zip-up is 100% more convenient to shed off when you need it gone.

I don't like non-hoodie pullovers either for the same reasons. Ones that are too big aren't any better.

I also don't wear stuff like that to lounge in though.
