Who plays in VR?

This has probably been the big new piece of hardware since the forums died off last time. So who uses VR, and what do you have?

Personally I used a Quest 2 through Oculus Link on my PC. I used the original Quest for a bit before I got my rig, and I really like it in its own right. But it's a different beast entirely through the Link. Half Life Alyx has been a genuine game changer for me. Stunning, stunning game. I haven't actually finished it yet, but that's mainly because it's even harder to find time to play VR (for which I need my lounge) than it is to sit down at my desk and play on my PC.

There's loads of VR games that I've enjoyed, but I want to give a shout out to the local multiplayer stuff, mostly Keep Talking And No One Explodes and Acron Attack of the Squirrels. I never thought that local multiplayer would be a thing in VR, and I was wrong, because those are both great fun.

I almost bout the PSVR2 when it came out but didn't pull the trigger. I've always wanted to play VR but the up front cost is too much for me to do based on how much I play and what I see coming out. I would have loved Gran Turismo 7 in VR but I know it would be cool for a week or two and then collect dust.

Ah, a Valve Index. I am jealous. Just can't justify that expense given how little I use VR, but I'd love to try one. How much of a leap is it over the Quest 2?

Honestly, I kind of miss the quest, but the index is able to handle a lot more (and has better graphics)

HL: Alyx is what sold it for me, too. I also did the MQ2 via Link to my PC, and though I hated the wire (and didn't have a true fast connection since I don't have any USB3.0 ports) but it worked out for me. It was the game that made me go "oh, okay, we're here now". I didn't even care that the graphics were source-like, it was next gen for me and such an insane way of "rebooting" the Half-Life story. They better not cuck us for the next installment, though. This game effectively changed the Half-Life: EP 3 ending that was leaked by the creator, so I really hope we can see how it pans out.

Linking to my PC also showed me the true power the device has. I only used the native Quest stuff for the longest time, not knowing there was an entire separate ecosystem when plugged into PC. I've played Bonelabs/Works, Gorn, Blade and Banner or whatever, Walkabout Mini-Golf, and Beatsaber, to name a few. I don't use it that often, but when I do, I really enjoy it.

You won't regret getting HL:A. In fact, you can try the HL2 VR mod free.

Okay, WOAH! I had no idea it was VR + phone integration for the other players. That is genius! I was always scared of the bomb game for anxiety reasons (lol) but I think I need to try now. I live with roommates and this would be perfect for us.

Honestly, VR porn was cool like the first time I tried it, until I realized how much of hassle it is to set up and get going and then the aftermath sucks and it just all kinda sucks in the end lmao. My girlfriend and I are going to try it together, though. I think that would be better - having someone on the inside and someone on the outside. Will report back with results next week.

Only motion sickness I ever got from it was while riding an elevator for the first time. It has options between moving moving and flash moving - flash moving takes a sec to get used to, but helps alleviate the motion sickness part, in my opinion.

I think I knew about the different movement options. Kind of rings a bell as I had watched some folks stream some vr games and people I chat saying they were getting motion sick just from watching. It's something I might look into in the future if we get a nice bigger house with a spare room I can turn into my cave.

The big (enough) room is a MUST, I've seen too many things on r/VRtoER, and punched a bedframe more times than I care to admit. I moved my rig into the basement, and have plenty of space now, so, it's become a non-issue. I'm really waiting for true AR to hit the market, though.

I enjoyed my time with my Quest 2 a lot. It took me about two weeks to get used to smooth locomotion in VR but I finally did it. I also really got into Flight Simulator in VR which was extremely fun. I sold my Quest 2 in preparation for Quest 3 so I will jump back in.

Curious to see if someone replies who plays lots of different things on VR. Most seem to have a couple of games they like on it but don't take to much else, not sure why? You paid so much, why wouldn't you play lots of different games on it? My dad loves Elite Dangerous VR. I've tried it and it's an amazing experience. The ships and space stations look huuuuuuge. Can't overstate how much better 3D depth perception is in VR. When something massive flies past you, you can fully appreciate it. Dad enjoyed the game in VR for about a year but now he plays it in normal 2D. Found the sweaty environment in the headset was giving him skin issues. If I don't get it myself eventually, my plan is when I'm a decrepit old man, I'll probably just go full-time into VR life. Would be a fun escape!

Not me! I have bought and played more than 20-30 games, maybe more. Tons of puzzle games, horror games and escape room like games. Red Matter 1 and 2, Floor Plan 2, Shadow Point, and I Expect You to Die series were excellent. Maybe if I count Quest exclusive games my VR games collection is even more than 30-40.

I had the same issue, there is actually a control to move your position in the plane, cant remeber which was it though.

I thought of that too... I would have been willing to pay to have them fix it. I tried for like a week to contact Sony. The serial number or whatever number I needed to enter kept coming up in their system as invalid so I couldn't file a claim, and I tried some other way to contact their support but they were only available during weird hours or some shit? I think I tried getting on the line and couldn't reach them for some reason. After I week I just rage quit. So now I have a 4 year old $400 paper weight. I keep meaning to try selling it on ebay or something, surely someone could use the parts, but I'm too mad to even touch it at this point lol. Does anyone want to buy this thing?

Yep, this was my plan. I seem to recall it being only right in the middle of my extremely busy workday, and when I tried to get on the line it took so long multiple times I literally could not contact them. I also couldn't find any way to submit a digital support request without the serial number, that for baffling reasons their system just did not recognize. I also looked into fixing the wire myself, but all I could come up with is "it's especially complicated". After a week of effort I literally couldn't spend any more time on it.

The one which connects to the headset, I imagine they're all braided together in there, but presumably a video cable specifically, as it still powered on and seemed to register being connected but was just black. It was also a tiny crimp of a "bite", so it seemed to be the least padded cable ever.

The real question is, what kind of monster designs a VR headset with a cord you cannot unplug and replace?

So, longshot here. I have a PSVR v1 that I don't use anymore. I upgraded to MetaQuest last year. Can I send it to you, so you can at least get some use out of it? I don't want to sell it, I'd rather give it to someone I know that will actually use it. I have no problem shipping it to you.
