Nintendo has a sale right now for co-op games. We bought two, a brain academy one and another one that has 51 board games/card games/billiard room games. We love both a lot as a family and they are both well made. We'll probably load up one when the grandparents come over.

Based on limited viewing, it looks surprisingly polished, as if they realized they could just take what worked from previous entires and automatically included it in the game from the start instead of having to spend multiple years fixing it.

That said, I don't think I want to invest in multi-player only games anymore. I already have hundreds of games that I need to play, some that will suck up a lot of time. Many MP games require a significant time investment to play well enough to feel like you're having fun. One of the things I like about fighting games is that I DON'T need to invest time into actually getting good enough to bear humans. You can just play the AI.

Battlefield doesn't support bots and the mods used for old games aren't all that great.
I mostly agree, but I usually make space for one or two multiplayer games. I don't know if I'll buy it, but I've enjoyed what I've played a lot. I don't think this game in particular will demand too much time.

Tears of the Kingdom update.

I like weapon fusing. I can't wait to be comfortable fusing better parts to the weapon. And first I thought it was a "hur hur, let's fuse two sticks together to make one big stick." It is nice that when it breaks, it only breaks one of them, kinda extending the longevity of a weapon. I don't know when I noticed that I could fuse items in my inventory to my weapon, but once I did, I understood the system and the reason why EVERY weapon except for bows is decayed.

I like how you can also attach items to arrows. I don't like how you have to do it for every single arrow, though.

Disappointed that attaching shit to shields is akin to just supergluing the item to the shield. They don't do anything special, like how weapons are transformed when you fuse them with amber...

I like how Chuchu jelly ACTUALLY has a purpose now. Instantly realizing I can just toss the blue/water jelly on the sludge to clean it off things felt good. Not knowing how I was supposed to figure it out besides "hmm, I what what happens if I do this?" does not inspire confidence. Would have helped to noticed the poor Zora guy lying right behind me covered in sludge when I approached the tower. He would have mentioned needing water...

I DO NOT like how they kinda push you towards going to Rito Village. In BOTW, they gently guide you to Kakariko Village and then Hataro Village before sending you off to handle the Divine Beasts in whatever order you choose. Sure, the Zora domain was the easiest because it's right there and doesn't require any specific status changes to make it there (though having some kind of shock protection would certainly help).

In TotK, you pretty much want to go in the Rito Village direction. Half of Lookout Point is talking about Rito Village and the fact that you should be prepared. You'll meet Impa on the way. She helps you learn about what the crop circles are supposed to be. It's how you get started on the newspaper quest that helps get you access to Great Fairies. Its also MUCH easier.

I chose to go towards Zora, Kakariko Village and then Hataro. Getting to Zora was cake, I used the towers to basically bypass mass amounts of space. But knowing I was kinda weak with only 4 hearts and a sliver of extra stamina and finding myself running out od arrows AND bows, I stopped fighting enemies. It was fine until I got to the Zora mini-boss that pops up after you figure out the very cleaver fish in the side puzzle. I got instantly destroyed on the first attempt. Second attempt I figured it out, but I realized I needed to farm more before I attempted to handle whatever was in the sky creating the sludge. So I went to Kakariko fiddled around there for a bit, fell into a massive hole where the original Great Fairy was trying to chase a dragon part, wandered around for a couple hours, resurface, tried to go to Hataro. The gate is guarded by NUMEROUS foes I was NOT equipped to fight. Sure... I could have just climbed the wall and whatnot, but I realized that the game does not want me to be there that early, even if you need to get to Hataro to upgrade the Purah Pad. Rito was cake. The enemies leading to it, and the final boss, all easy. It takes a little bit to get up there, but it was not hard. Nor was the boss, though if I had been low on arrows, I would have been fucked, which is probably not a good thing.

It seems to me that Geurdo is supposed to be last. Goron, second, and Zora third. Soon as I got back to Lookout after finishing the Rito section there's a Goron and a Hylian waiting at the entrance to the Emergency Shelter who briefly mention it and the restaurant that is opening up, as well as it being easier for Hylians to travel to Death Mountain, making it suuuuper clear where the game kinda wants you to go. Gerudo being last seems obvious as Ganon is clearly one of them.

The Depths are pretty empty. The uniqueness dies down once you realize there isn't much and that anytime you fight an enemy, you have to avoid taking damage as much as possible because the damage received from them can't be revealed until you go to the surface, eat food that specifically cures the curse or whatever, or you hit up a lighttree. There are no Koroks, no shrines. The Yiga clan is there though. They're as easy to dispatch as they were in BotW. Yiga Clan has to be this series' joke enemies. Thanks for the naners, guys.

Sky area is more interesting. Enemies are repetitive, though.

I died a lot more dumb deaths in this early stage than I did in BotW. In BOTW, I died because I didn't expect enemies to be capable of OHKing me. It TotK, I keep trying to do shit that I was doing in BotW because of the amount of hearts and stamina I had at the end. Hinox's are easy, though. First one I fought I made it through no damage taken.

There's other ways of doing it that are more intuitive and obvious. It seems you missed that and went with the less intuitive route? I didn't even know you could use chuchu jelly this way, and I 100%'d TotK.

Also, I'm not sure what makes you think Gerudo should be the last area. For me, it was a total cakewalk. It seemed like a natural-enough early game area.

The reason the game pushes you towards Rito Village is that the Sage power there is so incredibly useful for traversal -- much more useful than all the other powers.

There's another way to clean the sludge off of the tower door and statue? The Chuchu Jelly option was super simple.

There's literally something called a Splash Fruit and you're encouraged to use them at a specific story point.

(Not really a spoiler)
haha, I forgot about that. funny that Chuchu Jelly works, too. Chuchu Jelly also seems to be super easy to acquire because those fucking things ALWAYS pop up in your travels.

I did the chuchu jelly as well. Made killing the boss very easy too with them. Until I ran out of arrows.

God do you run out of arrows fast.
You can just throw items, which is what I've been doing to limit arrow usage. Only restoring to arrows in combat, hunting or long range tossing.

"You should play The Smurfs: Dreams for the Switch" sounds like the ramblings of a madman. But there's actually a quite good game here. It's an isometric 3D platformer that plays quite a bit like Super Mario 3D World, and, thematically, is a lot like Super Mario Galaxy. The platforming is a bit of a mix between Crash Bandicoot and Super Mario 3D World: isometric worlds that aren't always completely linear, but which have tight platforming and jumps that require good timing.

It's quite challenging, even early on, but it's not frustrating. It's a very forgiving game. I can see it being difficult for younger gamers, but I really enjoyed my time playing it. It demands attention and focus. There's been a lot of care put into what moght be overlooked as just another shitty licensed shovelware game.

That's not to say it's without flaws. There are some visual glitches, and the running is a bit too slippery and too slow for my taste, but the slipperiness does serve to make the platforming more challenging aometimes. You get used to the Luigi-like sluggish slipperiness after a short while, but it's immediately off-putting. Still, it's worth picking up for a few bucks if you can find it on the cheap. I put about 7 hours into the game.

I haven't played FF7.
Or Halo games.
Or more than 15 minutes of any Mass Effect games.
There's probably a few other outrageous ones out there too.
Somebody on the original GameWinners mailed me a copy of FF7 because I hadn't played it. I did after that, obviously, but honestly I was never that into it.

Only turn based RPG I've played a significant amount of time was Shadow Hearts From the New World. Got to a point where I couldn't beat enemies due to low health in my party. I assume I was supposed to grind levels so I didn't get outclassed in the desert chapter. So no Chrono Trigger or an Dragon Quest games.
Dragon Quest is grindy AF. I quickly gave it up in a situation similar to what you described: I was obviously intended to grind and I had no interest in doing so. So yeah I don't blame you there.

Sometimes the most random platformers turn out to be quite good. I'll have to check that out.

I recently got a random platformer on the Switch called New Super Lucky's Tale. It's a 2019 remake of a 2017 sequel to a 2016 Oculas Rift 3D platformer made using the Unity engine and developed and published by a developer/publisher who is not credited with any other game.

It's supposed to be pretty solid. At some point, I'll try it out. My attention is pretty much solely on Tears of the Kingdom, and I kinda have a bit of a hankering for a Far Cry game. Don't think I have 4, so 3 and Blood Dragon will likely have to do. If I do have 4, I'm probably playing that first.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed Far Cry 5 and 3 is my favorite of the franchise with 4 being pretty close. I had a hell of a time getting into 6, though. I still haven't made it past the first hour.

4 has a wingsuit of sorts that supposedly makes traversal a lot of fun. Also, the location it takes place in is pretty.

Its the sort of game I'd never think of playing, but saw a review for it somewhere saying it was worth picking up. I like giving good but overlooked games a boost when they deserve it. There's been a lot of soul put into the game, and some pretty crazy concepts.

I've played Super Lucky's Tale (which I assume is the 2017 version), and I agree it's pretty good. I don't remember being in love with it or anything, but I played it all the way through.

The whole Super to New Super thing was kinda weird. It's a remake of sorts but really it reminds me more of the original game being a beta version and the New version being the final product. You can see the original stuff poke through but all the story and levels have been reworked and expanded. I only played the New version but it's supposedly much better.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed Far Cry 5 and 3 is my favorite of the franchise with 4 being pretty close. I had a hell of a time getting into 6, though. I still haven't made it past the first hour.
I feel the same way. 3 is awesome but I enjoyed FC5's setting the most and the game is very beautiful by 2018 standards. 6 isn't bad but I do think for many people it's where the FC formula has got too stale. It isn't helped by the fact that Giancarlo Esposito is badly underused in a largely disappointing plot.

Personally, I think the tone of 5 fit the Far Cry formula better than the tone of 6. To me, 6 felt like a throwback to a simpler time of dictators whereas 5 fit the modern era it was in. Just in the little bit of time I spent playing it, it felt as if they were trying to recapture the maniacal nature of the antagonist from 4 and not truly trying to separate their antagonists from one another. I could be wrong, like I said, I didn't make it too far into the game, but, it just didn't captivate the way the others did.

Still playing Gears of War Reloaded. I just got into the 5th act of the campaign on Insane difficulty. Overall, this difficulty is not that difficult given that I've never played a Gears game before, but there's a noticeable step up in difficulty in Acts 4 and 5. It's not that the game itself is any harder, but they lengthened the distance between checkpoints and increased the number of enemies. Given that you get killed very easily on insane, this is why it's so much harder. I'm not too worried though.

As for the multiplayer, apparently a server outage has caused the game to be down for the last 6 hours. The developers claim that this is affecting multiple games, but I haven't heard of any other games that were impacted. I'm pretty concerned about the long-term viability of the multiplayer, because it's so difficult to begin with, and I think people are going to move on if there are regular server outages on the weekends.

Alright, so I didn't finish The Walking Dead when I was on holiday, so that's taking a backseat now that I'm back home. I suspect it'll come out again when I'm away from home for work in a couple of weeks.

But in the mean time, I'm back on Clair Obscur and loving it. I was worried that I might lose momentum with it given that I've only played it pretty sporadically since buying it, but I've played a few hours over the last couple of days and it has properly sucked me in.

Also playing Peak because it seemed a good co-op game to play with a friend who has a Steam Deck, and it's fantastic. Charming, a solid gameplay loop and just the right level of challenge. We're only a few hours in but are having a great time with it and trying to convince a couple of other friends to buy it too.

Just finished 100%ing Tinykin. It's kind of like Pikmin, but reimagined as a 3D collectathon platformer with some fun movement options. The game has a rich, beautiful, detailed world, but there is pretty much 0 dangers in the entire game. Still, it's fun to move around the world and explore. I really enjoyed it. It's the perfect intro game for kids.

The main game is really easy, but the add-on time trials are nuts-crushingly difficult to get platinum medals on. And I realized much too late, with only one race left, that the Switch, and especially its handheld mode, actively works against you. Either the race clock is tied to the framerate, or the race clock runs independent of that, and the game itself is tied to the framerate. That's some Rockstar-ass shit.

What that means is that micro-seconds (between 0.01-0.10) are added to the clock every few seconds in handheld compared to docked (and even MORE when compared to the smooth framerate of the PS5 version, for example). This makes a huge difference added up over the length of a race. I noticed this when I watched a PS5 player race like shit but still get a platinum while I was busting my ass with some crazy moves but still coming up short a second or so.

Next up is Pentiment. Looking forward to this one! @Quagmire

I haven't posted an update on TotK in almost a month. I have been playing almost every day for the past month. There is a LOT to do in this game. The amount of content and things to do and find absolutely dwarfs BotW.

I've only recently completed the Regional Occurrences main quest and the quest right after involving tracking "Zelda" throughout the castle. By that time, I knew just about everything regarding Zelda. I don't know how much of the story I have left, but I'm taking my time. I actually had to slow my pace going through the Regional bits.
Playing around in the depths is just a farming simulator, because there are a lot of stuff to collect and mine and it's the best way to get bombs for bomb arrows. I wish it wasn't a pain to traverse. I likely just need to make a good flying vehicle and just go everywhere in it in the depths. The sages kinda get in the way. I wish there was an easier way to use their abilities like the champion abilities in BotW. I don't like having to directly interact with one of the sages to use their abilities. Because Tulin can fly, he's the only one that can constantly keep up with me, and gets in the way far too often and unlike Riju's and the Fire Sage's ability, you can't cancel it, so if you accidentally enable his ability, he just sits behind you ready to blow his wind. His arrows are SUUUUUPER useful. TotK has annoying crit boxes compared to BotW, and Tulin's ability to randomly get headshots has been super helpful at time.

I appreciate that spears are better in this game thanks to fusing. They still have amoung the best durability in the game, and now they can be buffed to insane levels. Still not as good as some other weapons, but they're very helpful fighting annoying enemies that like to dodge away from me.

Oh, I mentioned content.

Outside of the direct main storyline involving trying to locate Zelda and the 4 regions, there's the "memories" like BotW, except it's much easier to find the locations, and there's more to it than just the memories. I like Impa being involved. I like completing a region storyline and finding Impa arriving looking for those geoglyphs (assuming you start her questline on your way to Rito like I did). The quest to find the Master Sword is better. Sure, you can randomly find it like you can in BotW, but it's not as obvious and you can't typically just stumble upon it this time unless you know it's there. There's the Robbie questline. The statues questline. The Yiga Clan hilarity. The shrines. Treasure maps and LOTS of outfit pieces that you can't just buy at stores like in BotW (it took me forever to find the trousers for the climbing outfit). Korok Seed are everywhere again, and this time the Korok headpiece isn't locked behind a DLC wall, the "I need to reach my friend" seeds are annoying, though. Addison and his signs. More mini-boss battles (though Lynels seem less common on the overworld). Regional boss rematches in the depths. The Pirate quest. The monster statue quest. The Bubbul quest. Caves. Wells. Mini games sprinkled throughout (though, you can't abuse them for easy rupies like you could with the bowling one in BotW).

I came across this video today and it gave me some fun/useful ideas for what weapons I can use.

I really like the Colgera fight. It's epic as fuck and the music is awesome.

Really like that I get to refight it in the Depths. It's not a hard fight, but it's cool as fuck, IMO. I do wish Colgera had more room to move around. The thing feels super restricted in space, due to how large it is. The only entities in the game larger than Colgera are the element dragons that you see floating around Hyrule (and the Depths, which is also cool).

I really should fight Gleeoks more often, because they can be pretty epic, too. I've only fought one so far, and it took far too long. I still don't have full elemental outfits outside of the Rito outfit, so I can't exactly go mano e mano against some of the Gleeoks unless I want to get my ass handed to me. Plus, outside of the one in the open snow field, they all seem restricted in battle space, too, which is super annoying.

Edit: I love everything about the Yiga clan and their nonsense. In BotW, they were more of an annoyance, especially after you beat their Master, but in TotK, they're a little of fun to encounter. They're ever hard to fight, suggesting they're just there for lighthearted fun. If I could, I'd hold onto the dumbest weapon imaginable to defeat them with whenever they popped up.

Master Kogha battles are fun, amd so is his theme. I think I have one more fight with him, and I'm going to be sad that I won't get to listen to the theme in game unless I do another playthrough (will have to do some kind of challenge run if I do that).

I brought my Steam Deck to work just in case I could manage to buy Silksong. That dream came through and I managed to put in an hour already.

As TD said, this game is so so good already.
