Mario Kart will probably be the system's best seller, too, just like the Wii U. Then again, Mario Kart was also the Switch's best seller.

You have to go back to the Gamecube before encountering a Nintendo console that didn't have Mario Kart as it's best seller (non-pack-in). Or the DS, if you include handhelds.

From the looks of the sales numbers from the official Nintendo JP site, all the #1 game sales have also been the bundled game with the console. So... a good number of those games are just a tag along. I got Mario Kart 8, but barely played it on my Switch. Just got it since it made sense for the price and I think the bundle also had the two tone JoyCons instead of just black.

I'm not saying Mario Karts haven't sold very well stand alone, but paying $20-30 for a game instead of $60+ for it individually makes more sense. Unless you really just don't want that game at all. I did it for Switch and GameCube I believe.

So, I was told [by a Game Stop employee] that Nintendo intends to include the full games on the carts, but third party companies mat not.

Also, pre-orders were supposedly suspended for now. Its likely a reaction to the tarrifs and are probably going to limit the number of systems to the US.

Luckily, I have never purchased a system on launch, and I can just play Fatal Fury on Steam, so there is no rush. Especially since Metroid Prime 4 is still a Switch 1 release.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025 in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," Nintendo of Canada said in a statement
They didn't say. My guess would be some kind of shipping issue since North America has always been treated as a single market, but I don't know for sure.
But this is just preordering, not shipping.

super weird that if you already have BotW that it'll only cost 10 bucks to get you the Switch 2 version, but if you want to buy the Switch 2 version outright with the DLC, it'll cost 90 bucks. So basically, get a used copy of the Switch 1 game, buy the DLC and Switch 2 patch and you'll probably save like 25-30 bucks.

Yeah makes no sense, but someone looking to gift it is not likely to do that

Amusingly, unless there's a (non-existing) sale on either Zelda or their DLC, both of them will end up being the same price. For Switch 1, BoTW is $60 and DLC is $20 bundled. Throw in the $10 upgrade and you're at the $90. I didn't check ToTK, but I imagine it's the same.

Welp.

Better news than the direct yesterday lol. Accessories took a big hit, but if that's what they're doing to keep the console price down, I'm for it.

how do these numbers compare to PS5 and Series X?

Edit: Xbox Series X/S is using TFLOPS for their GPU... Switch 2 is still a massive step down...

Xbox CPU is running at 3.8GHz... over twice as much as the Switch 2 with the same number of total cores.
I've heard Switch 2 is more comparable to last gen, so probably better to compare it to PS4 and whatever the last gen Xbox was called (their naming scheme is even worse than Nintendo's). I think even then it falls a bit short. It definitely isn't competitive technically with current gen systems.

Looks like it's slightly more powerful than a regular Xbox One but less powerful than the Xbox One X (which is pretty much the "pro" version.

Switch 2 supposedly supports Ray Tracing, which the Xbox One didnt.

Yes, it has 20 Gigarays per second in docked mode. The PS5 has 80, although again those are theoretical numbers that are not really directly comparable. Knowing about Nvidia vs. old AMD numbers I'd wager the gap is smaller than that, and the PS5 is a mediocre RT performer. That said, RT hits other components hard, mainly the CPU and VRAM, so I'm not sure how much RT we will see.

It also has DLSS which Switch 1 obviously didn't.

It's an Ampere part (RTX 3000 equivalent) with a backported media engine from Ada Lovelace (RTX 4000) and a custom file decompression system (for load times). This was one of the reasons people were sceptical of the leaks since it's essentially a mid/late 2021 product, but that's what we got.

Better specs means the games made for it can be better, so it does matter to some extent, yeah. I agree they're plenty good enough though.
But the games are designed for the specs of the system not the other way around. It just sounds like a lazy way to compare systems and say one is better than the other
