Edit: I'm now paranoid about my own vehicle I had to put on an income. I put the parking brake on, but it's around a corner so anxiety.

Does a parking brake help with that? It keeps the tires from rolling but I'm not sure it prevents sliding. Maybe chocks?

I believe for parking on a hill you are supposed to turn the wheels so that if it does roll back the tires hit the curb. Florida is far to flat to ever need to do this. I don't know what one does if there is no curb.

Front wheels roll back into the curb when on an incline, front wheels roll forward into the curb on a decline. Basically you want to make sure you don't let your car roll into the middle of the road.

It wouldn't do anything on ice, no. That's probably only going to be avoided by having tires with decent tread, but even then it depends.

Still, better to do it than not. The wheel turning thing isn't going to matter for ice either, it'll slide with gravity regardless of the way the wheels are turned. As Alu said, that's to try to direct it if the brake fails and it starts rolling.

That's for parallel parking, so even with no ice, I don't think it would've helped in this situation. How funny that you don't ever have to do that, though.

I guess I'll stick with my current solution: don't move the car while ice is present.

My wife's cousin has kids. A couple years ago we were visiting them and the 4 year old boy was eating mints (the ones we all know, white and red circle ones) and said "I don't like these" to me. I told him to stop having them then. He did not, and kept saying he didn't like them. All the way up until he threw up on the floor.

I can be just as guilty if it's something that I'm not a huge fan of but they're not terrible I'll end up eating them cuz they're there

You were closer with your tire chock suggestion. The trick is to place them before the storm, with some salt under them. Alternatively, some bricks or a couple small sandbags will do the trick, again, if placed prior to the storm. It’s good practice to check on it, still, because enough ice will still cause sliding.

So that the last thing in here isn't just me in a pimp coat...

I got the parental "kid informs you of school project the night before it's due" thing.

Kindergarten sent home a packet weeks ago about a "Vocabulary Parade" they were doing off of some book they're reading. I didn't notice said packet in my daughters backpack, nor did she mention it. Not until I got the "are you coming to the parade?" sheet to sign.

Basically she needed a costume conveying one of the 100 words they gave, like 'appendage' and 'threefold'.

I went with 'outskirts', and after a run to Walmart and a few hours sewing ribbon into straps, I put skirts on the outskirts of a costume.



I added another two signs since taking the picture, so the skirts won't move about as much.

I think I did pretty good for short notice.

Okay, I overheard a couple of "outskirts, that's clever" during the parade, her principal said it was great on our way out, and as I was loading it into the car after another parent commented that they liked it.

2am bedtime worth it, I guess.

Found this in a jar full of pens.

It's basically just the piezoelectric crystal thing used in lighters, that creates a spark, intended to let you "itch" bug bites without scratching them and damaging your skin.
