Multi Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

I had only heard of this game a couple weeks ago, I don't follow gaming news that closely and I just kind of skimmed the headlines, so I'm sure it did get some press over time just it wasn't a title that grabbed my eyes, but holy fucks this sounds amazing baseball for the reviews and unlike see if Stars which was more of a homage, this sounds like it does some things really interesting in both the combat and more importantly for me in terms of RPG the story

Who is planning on getting this?

Part of me wants to grab this before I get avowed or kcd 2

I have it, I've put a few hours in and it's very well done so far. Incredible even since it was a 30 person Dev team. It's beautiful, the turn based battles are fun enough. There are QTEs for most attacks to buff them and you can even dodge/parry most attacks. I'm not good at that part yet, some of the timing feels janky but it might be a skill issue.

Very sad and bleak intro but they did a great job not making it super depressing. Curious to see how the rest of the game goes. I've heard it's a lot of hallways like FF13 but not as bad.

It's very French, seeing as the devs are French. A different vibe for sure. It feels like a JRPG but looks like something else that I can't quite describe.

I am not very far into the game but I am already completely invested in the story and characters.

Gameplay is...fine. its fine.

Music is absolutely wonderful.

Game Pass subscribers are eating REAL GOOD this year with this, Blue Prince, Avowed, and Oblivion.

Honestly this might be what gets me to buy game pass at least for a few months, I would probably try out blue prince, Avowed and this game, I wonder if pirate Yakuza and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 are on it I'll have to look

I was aboard with this as well, but now I'm 7 hours in and the timing is getting better. I looooove the gameplay with pictos's added. I've had a few tough battles but I've had some where I've dodged all damage.

I've also got to the world map and it is NOSTALGIC as hell, but also modernized.

I love this. I turned Lune into a glass cannon and its so much fun. I just set her up to destroy enemies.

Don't bring politics into my happy place. I'll enjoy my $7/dozen eggs and RPGs in peace.
It’s @VashTheStampede’s fault for talking about eating well. He set me up

Man, I love this game. I have three party members, just got the abilities to upgrade weapons and assign materia essentially... It feels so well made. Everything is intentional, everything is polished. I'm getting better at dodging and parrying. It makes me sad because this is what final fantasy should still be.

The turn based fighting is intense - since you can legitimately dodge almost any attack, the enemies typically do more raw damage so if your timing is off or you can't quite figure out the attack pattern, it hurts.

I died against a boss, but had the timing down on the second attempt and only took damage one time in 9 rounds. So satisfying.

The music is phenomenal. The character banter is believable. It's beautiful. I already care more about these three characters in 9 hours than I should.

I'd buy it outright to support the devs. I hope they come out with merch for it. I'll support those fighting the good fight. They broke off from Ubisoft and a couple other publishers and made something better.

I'm also the type that can't use subscription game services. If I have access to so many games, I won't play any of them. If I buy a game, I will commit to playing it and forget the noise of a game pass. It's the only way I can play. Like I have paralysis when there are too many options.

Im normally not a subscription guy, but summer break I can play a lot more and I will know I will stay focused as I want to cancel once I beat the games I want to play

I can't do subscriptions either. Historically I've bought games when they're at a decent value and not really played them. Now I've shifted to buying games I want to play, or have a good chance of playing in the near future. But paying for access to game that I won't play and which I won't own when I stop subscribing? Nope.

As the days go on I'm getting closer to the idea that this will be my next purchase after I'm done with one of my current rotation. This just feels like it was made for millennial JRPG fans who are now older but want a more modern game with updated classic mechanics that doesn't require the dedication of a full time job to finish. It being a smaller breakaway dev team is just one more reason to throw money at it.

The Game Pass loophole where you could pay regular Xbox Live Gold money for Game Pass Ultimate was just too good to pass up. It still exists, albeit at half the rate, but for the past six years I've been paying about £33 per year for Game Pass Ultimate.

In truth I look at all those games in the past that I've bought, played and been too lazy to sell and that's wasted money too. Most story-based games I play once and never play again. I don't think GP is the worst option for those sorts of games.

At a price of £33/year it sounds like a good deal

I think I've decided to do game pass, its not normally my thing but so many new games I want to try, I think I can knock this out in May, I will cancel gamepass maybe and pick up Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 (or maybe I try to knock out Avowed or Blue Prince or something else, especially if I still have time left)

I Think if I have a goal, I can use it and cancel it. I'd love to cancel out netflix but my wife still occasionally watches things on there
