.... I just got to 18 allowance.

I'm rich!
Nice!! I upgraded the guest bedroom so I get +2 every time I get to the antechamber (assuming I drafted the guest bedroom, which is pretty easy to do). I'm only up to 12 though.

I wanna get it up really high so I can buy out the showroom. Yeah there's a trophy for it, but it also simply be fun.

I also need to buy all the books in the bookshop next time I see it. I need ALL the books!!

There's so many things I need to do still and I'm like, what the heck do I try to do next?!

I'm attempting to get the boiler and pump rooms to align. And/or lab. I think I also know what to do with a few special rooms, like the candle/torch room and one weird looking wall in the basement. Just gotta get lucky.

Grr, I had a sledge hammer but couldn't use it on that wall. At least try, my boy!! I feel like I could break a brick wall with a sledge hammer and I have almost no upper body strength. How hard could it be?? (Disclaimer: I have never tried such a thing so maybe it's actually really difficult.)

I got the boiler room to power the lab through pure luck. I've yet to get it anywhere near the pump room though. I'm thinking to get the blessing that helps you get dice, then not building the pump room until I get a boiler room, then roll dice until I get that or a passageway (it has ducts and lots of doors). I really want to drain that reservoir!! (Will it do any good? Who knows.)

Has anybody found that putting water in the kitchen does anything helpful? I could turn on the faucet but is that of any use? I feel like you should be able to refill the watering can from it, but you can't fill it from any other water source I've found, so it seems unlikely.

What's your average run time? Mine says about 70 minutes, but I like to fuck around a lot.

From what I think the solution is, you're 1/3rd of the way there. That's as much as I'll say. 👀

I mean, from the south side, you can see steps going pretty far down, so I'm sure there's something there!

No clue about that. The watering can thing sounds plausible. I'll keep that in mind.

I did remove the water from the kitchen once and lo and behold! The faucet stopped working. Who woulda thunk.

Less than 30 mins? I'm on day 26 and I've played 11.6h. Sometimes things work and/or I run into a roadblock I can't work through.

I've been thinking about how to approach that, but it's tough for sure. I feel like you need at least one rare room which will take dozens of runs to get. Not having the extra steps would really suck too, but you might get lucky enough to get around that one.
I've gotten close but it's honestly absurd. What I find very fascinating is that the room pool seems very similar each day, I feel like there's more to it than RNG but I can't figure it out. I think the game gives a way to do it every Day 1, but it randomizes which way it is.

My basic notes on how to do it without spoiling much. I've spent hours on this with no luck. The lack of permanent upgrades and changes is very difficult.
  • Figure out which of the six ways to unlock antechambers is available
  • Figure out which of the five ways to get underground is available (one by default is not possible Day 1)
  • Figure out which of the three ways to get the Secret Garden Key is available
  • Managing your keys, gems, gold, and steps
  • Fill out enough of the manor to get multiple of the Unlikely/Rare rooms
  • Figure out where the dice are and use them sparingly
More stuff. Probably. I think I'm around 50-60 failed runs, with the average run taking about 10 minutes. Deep runs where I'm close take 15-20.
Curse mode you got to anger the gods (I only know since I just got cursed lol). No menu for them, though I haven't bought the dare one, so I don't know how that works.
:giggle
So curse mode and being cursed is actually different. Curse mode is so much worse. But now that you've been cursed, you've unlocked it.
I wanna get it up really high so I can buy out the showroom. Yeah there's a trophy for it, but it also simply be fun.
The showroom is tricky because none of the pieces are permanent upgrades, though the Coat Check can be handy for keeping one. There's more than one way to get hundreds of gold at once.

Also if you want the trophy, this caused me pain. The trophy costs 100 after buying out the showroom.
I also need to buy all the books in the bookshop next time I see it. I need ALL the books!!
The books are honestly one of the most useful pieces of information I have.
I'm attempting to get the boiler and pump rooms to align.
Good luck, I didn't get that until like Day 60.
I got the boiler room to power the lab through pure luck.
Do not forget to locate the new location it unlocked!

(Spoilered for Jawneh)

I have no idea what mine is. I've had a lot of runs go dead early from experimentation and particular objectives I was aiming for that wasn't Room 46. In the early stages it was likely an hour per run. Now it's probably 20-30 minutes but I'm in late late game.

I did end up seeing another cursed thing during my run, but I lacked the funds to grab it... welp. Maybe it's that?

Good luck, I didn't get that until like Day 60.
I've almost had it twice now! Both times I had 0 gems so I was screwed. Bah!

I passed grade 6 just now and damn do you got to learn. Went through 9 rerolls and didn't get another classroom anymore and like 2 dice. Another thing to attempt again in the future.

I managed to get both the lab and pump room to the boiler room! Yes! ... then I got just 1 room away to get into the basement to check to see new things. Welp.

I did learn something interesting about the weight room, assuming it's not just a history thing, but an actual clue. I'm very very intrigued. 👀

Btw, what is the worst/shortest day y'all have had? Mine ended up being, truly accidentally, only 7 rooms. So that's me drafting only 4 rooms in total.

Well. I've been hit by the save game bug, time to shelve the game until it's fixed. That's unfortunate. Could've been worse, could have lost a Day One completion because I just came super close.
🙃

I don't know off hand but I've definitely got a little too dead-end happy and have had a couple runs where I didn't even get to Rank 3.

I had a few early runs that ended with less than a dozen rooms. Funnily enough, one of my best runs was when I figured out how to get the combo for the apple orchard lock and made getting everything together I needed to do that my only goal for that run. I ended up accomplishing it pretty quickly so I just fucked around for the rest of it. I ended up with all but two spots with rooms, like 200 gold, a dozen keys, nearly every item in the game, 300+ total steps, and opened the antechamber. It was just ridiculous.

Then I actually tried the next run and didn't make it past rank 2.

RNG has a funny sense of humor.

The WHAT?!
There's a bug that seems to impact people who have gotten to a certain point. Basically while you have the game open, it looks like it's saving. But then when you close the game and boot it up, it didn't actually save. If your save is impacted, it hits all profiles on the file. Seems to impact PS5 only. Trigger is unknown but it tends to happen to people beyond Day 100.

You can do some pretty wonky stuff late game, so it's possible something there breaks things?

Just getting to the first goal can take anywhere from a handful of hours (with a little luck) to an average span of 10-15h from what I've talked to folks. After that, there's all the other puzzles that deepen the game, all the lore and story behind the whole game, and so on. Quite a few folks have said it's their GOTY after Balatro. Unless something amazing comes along later this year, I agree.

It's also worth noting that the bug doesn't come into effect until super late.

I'm a bit bummed I have to pause, but bug aside it's an excellent game and is rightfully in the GOTY convo.

This has been hard to put down, constantly getting caught by "just one more run...".

I've messed up a few things on accident. Like, 1 move away from doing something new.

I missed 1 room from filling the whole house.

I missed 1 room (again) from finishing the chess puzzle.

I couldn't use the 8-key as I had no more doors left? Unless there's a specific door for it. Idk.

I did all the reservoir and boiler room stuff, only to forget to bring the boat over.....

And thanks to the above I couldn't go mess around in the torch/candle room either. Bah!

But I got new rooms? I got into the casino and made enough coins to unlock dare mode. That's a plus I guess?

Does this mean you know what you're doing and how to solve it, you just need to solve it?

This was one of my favourite earlier puzzles.

Curious what you'll think of this one, I really enjoyed it.
The berry blessing is amazing btw.
I'm actually not a fan as it's hurt me more than once. I'm a fan of the blessing of the monk myself.

Yes. I've gotten 1 piece away before. Amusingly the first time I found it I was just the king away. Since then, it's been either the king or queen that I was missing any time I remembered to figure out stuff.

The plus part is if you used the reserve tank, all you need to do things later is the Pump Room.
Yup. I'm good for the next time whenever I draft it. I can then go check out what I find next

I found it very useful to use for the Darkroom and when I'm short on gems for something. And for dead ends. You tend to get rare or unusual rooms from it. I actually tried it the first time on my outdoor one and got the drafting room for the easiest new room unlock!

Curious what you'll think of this one, I really enjoyed it.
Will let you know when I get to it! Currently just trying to tie some of the loose ends I mentioned.

I just realized that all of the upgraded rooms get a slightly different name as you upgrade them.

My Guest Bedroom options were Guess, Quest, and Geist Bedroom. Gotta love that little bit of polish instead of just adjusting the effect of them.

So while I understand the desire to pass on the Darkroom, it's actually a very valuable room that's been crucial to my close calls for my Day 1 run. Food for thought.

Why?
It always has a guaranteed item, often rare like lockpicks, broken lever, or battery.
Oh no.

What, it does?! I guess because it's usually dark, I never noticed...
I tend to pick it most of the time if I get it. Early on, especially within the first few ranks, it rarely matters if you place an awkward room down. I just think of it as extra doors!

But yes. I do know how it works and get the loots when I can. (For Kat, gotta turn the lights on :giggle ) It's also among the best choices for the berries so I mentioned that. If you have to choose random, why not get good random?

In other news!

I'm up to 4 trophies now! Last night was very productive. On top of the 46 trophy, I now got full house, buying out the showroom, and room 8. I also finally did the chess puzzle.

Also also, dare mode. I quickly took a look at it and... it can wait until later lol. It is interesting though just to start it off. I'm also scared to find out what else there is to it...

I've unlocked a couple more envelopes. I was being a dumdum with the safe combos. I should be able to crack the rest now as I get to them. Hopefully...

I did learn some interesting things. I learned a couple interactions with rooms and whatnot. If anyone is interested, they're below:

If you block the negative effect (of being an empty dead end I guess), you find consumables inside of it. I had a key, gem, and something that I forgot inside of it. It was neat.

There's actually three things in total with this place. One of them is hinted somewhere, one of them you see and need to figure out yourself, and then there's the interaction. After you draft the freezer, you can go into the sauna and thaw out your stuff. You can then keep collecting all the things and freeze the stuff again at the end of the day to maximize stuff brought over.

Not really a special interaction per se, but you see the current orientation of the side doors in the great hall. You see which doors have stuff in them, which doors take you to the doors out from the room, and which two are just dead ends.

Spoiler: Lavatory
This is what I thought you meant by at least three things with this room and now I'm lost!?

But yeah, at first glance the Red Rooms are awful. They all have a pretty large benefit though.
Spoiler: Freezer
It took me forever to get this combination. Especially because the Freezer seems to be relatively uncommon.
Spoiler: Drafting Room
Studio, I assume?

I never noticed this, but not sure if I ever even had those two rooms at the same time.

New patch came out but no fix yet. Sigh.

Me too? I mentioned three things about the freezer, not lavatory. I haven't had my coffee yet so maybe my brain isn't computing properly.

Yeaaaa. I was waiting for it forever too. I almost waited until I had a dead end constellation before trying it, but I got lucky on a random day.

Studio, I assume?

I never noticed this, but not sure if I ever even had those two rooms at the same time.
Ah yea, studio. They're all rooms okay?! :blush

I think it does say it there too in the studio, but after going to the room a few times already I never actually made the connection. I thought it was just a neat scale model to make the room seem neat. But then again, nothing in this game should be taken for granted, especially at first glance.

... case in point, the clock tower. Obvious now, but I got lucky with it on accident.

There's at least 3 things in the room that are related to things. Two of them are obvious. The third one I started to uncover, but couldn't do anything with. Though I got an idea. Probably related to one of the others. Would make sense.
This is what's got me? Though I said Lavoratory apparently so maybe you thought I meant the Lab and not the Lavatory which feels like a reasonable conclusion here!?

I kept notes for some things where I'd write down the room name and day, then I'd go back to look at something and realize I wrote a room I never drafted that day. "I wrote hallway but there are none. Maybe I meant corridor...?" "There isn't even a room called storage, gotta be storeroom, right??" And I'd write it while looking at the screen, which says the room name!

Also while we are chatting about some rooms, here were some of my favourite discoveries.

Note, I'm not saying how to do these things, just subtle hints with rooms where there's more to it.

There is much more to this room than there appears to be on the surface. It also provides access to probably my favourite thing.

You can get every key in this room without using a single coin. A complete accident of a discovery.

There are at least two secrets to the Entrance Hall, maybe more, but these two were fun to find.

There are certain items you can trade in that will grant you upgrade disks and allowance tokens.

There is a very significant pretty obscure secret with this. And it's not the blue thing that you're thinking.

Yes, I found it at some point fairly early on. Now that I understand how to uncover the combinations, I should be able to crack it when I get the room again.

Wait are you saying you triggered the cutscene by accident and found the secret item?

YEAH! Which was extra confusing at first as I was right next to the pendulum on my way down from the top, so I thought maybe poor Simon was about to get crushed by the thing or something. It was a whole lot of confusion for a brief moment.

I liked the next puzzle there. Very fun.

Though on the topic of the safes, I still only found 7 red letters and had yet to locate #8.
I got 6 currently. The studio safe should have my 7th. I think the fortune teller lad said once that you'll never find the 8th letter, though from what I've uncovered there's an extra one? And I believe I've gotten the extra. A weird little twist.

.... Oh! I know where the last safe is. I shall keep that a secret. I think I still got to do many things to get to it.

It definitely is a head scratcher. It doesn't help when the game is clearly telling you that "hey, this is a clue for something" but you got no idea when that becomes relevant. I got a good handful of pieces of information that I need to do something with, but... I don't know where. Welp.

Oooh I don't recall that bit from the fortune teller but he throws a lot at you.

Now is that the truth or a challenge?
This game is making me feel like a moron.
I hear you. For what it's worth, you're definitely not a moron and this is a certain type of game. It'll be easier to pick up if you have lots of experience with puzzle games but even then, it takes some time to figure out what the hell is going on. My notebook is 20+ pages of gibberish that apparently makes me sound like a serial killer so.

That said, if you're looking for some pointers I'm sure the group here will help you out. I'll also be the first to admit that despite my obsession with it, it's not for everyone.

5 I think? I somehow potentially missed getting one couple steps after the gallery. Maybe I needed one more room after that, but it was my last room of the day so I just completed that. Another thing to try to remember to do again lol.

Oooh I don't recall that bit from the fortune teller but he throws a lot at you.

Now is that the truth or a challenge?
No idea. Like, he mentions someone coming into the house, knocking the pretty bird statues down at the entrance and leaving one of the side gates open. I'm at day 60 or so and that hasn't happened. The thing about white sands came true I guess as I found the place. Then other random things I don't remember anymore lol.

New things so far from last night / today! And points of interest.

I unlocked cursed mode. Kind of figured that was the way. I also enjoyed the book about it from the library/bookstore.

Apparently there's a thing that happens if you can manage to get 20 dead ends into your house. That's something alright lol. I've gotten to 15 at best.

From the few things you mentioned @TD I'm missing I think 3 more rooms, including the closed exhibit. I only have one more left to unlock from the drafting studio.

Oh, I speaking of the studio, I got the safe from there. So I got 7 envelopes now.

I haven't figured out anything there yet. I did read somewhere that there's supposedly 2 versions of the entrance. I've been trying to keep track of the things in there to see if anything changes, but nothing yet.

Trading post I think I've gotten everything done there. Unless one of the showroom items or something gets you more things lol.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Obviously there's the gas thing, then there's the soil plots that I believe can only net you more gems in the green room if put on that spot. Related to the green room, there's a thing on the ground in the shed in the orchard that I know what it's about. Lastly, maybe the sundial has something to do with something, but I haven't thought of anything.

Err... If there was anything else, I forgor. I need to work on the school rooms, get that one secret thing, try to figure out the grotto, get to 50 stars, and start learning more things so that I can do more things related to beyond the secret things.

Aw man... The rabbit hole deepens. I'm made some strides, but I'm still not getting ahead? It's wild lmao.

So I did a thing with the blessing of monk. From what I can understand from that is that it's something I can't do anything with yet. I solved most of the clue in there though, I think. A wild thing that I also noticed was that the spinny thing below was in the up position somehow? Maybe the good ol' butler forgot to reset it or something. :D It was weird though.

I still got to do the classroom things.

I need to go back to the tomb as I found an upgrade disk there, but in my haste to attempt to do things I forgot to use it lmao. I also learned other things in the tomb.

I also need to go back to the library again and read the clue book. Hopefully this time I'll have a magnifying glass too.

Oh, I have many trophies now! I'm at 7 now. Room 46, full house, darts, parlor, the 8, all contraptions, and bought the showroom. I'm trying to figure out which thing to do for the 8th trophy. The classroom seems the most obtainable with some RNG luck. But idk.

I think part of it is I am just not seeing what the puzzles even are.

Like the ones I've noticed, I've been able to figure out. But like I just can't tell what actually is one

Like, he mentions someone coming into the house, knocking the pretty bird statues down at the entrance and leaving one of the side gates open. I'm at day 60 or so and that hasn't happened.
:giggle
Any developments on that front yet?
Spoiler: Dead Ends thing I learned
This one is a doozy to pull off. I guess that's why they're calling it the sweepstakes.
From the few things you mentioned @TD I'm missing I think 3 more rooms, including the closed exhibit.
You're missing the Closed Exhibit? Interesting - all I'll say is perhaps there's something you missed at one of the things you already did.

Also, there's 110 different rooms to draft.
Spoiler: Orchard
One of those things you said is related to the thing I meant.
I need to go back to the tomb as I found an upgrade disk there, but in my haste to attempt to do things I forgot to use it lmao. I also learned other things in the tomb.
:paranoid
I can't tell you the number of times I did this. Hit call it a day only to immediately realize I forgot to do that, or forgot to use coat check, or whatever.
Oh, I have many trophies now! I'm at 7 now. Room 46, full house, darts, parlor, the 8, all contraptions, and bought the showroom. I'm trying to figure out which thing to do for the 8th trophy. The classroom seems the most obtainable with some RNG luck. But idk.

Not sure if it helps but that was a lot of my experience in the early stages too? At some point it just clicked but I'm sure there's plenty I've missed too.

What helped me get to that point is not trying to figure out everything but focusing on a few objectives and going from there, you can always go back to the stuff another room provided if you learn something that might be relevant. The Library was a massive help as a starting point in understanding that stuff as well.

I got one of the three things from there. I swear I had clicked those things at least three times previously, but no. Guess I was missing the thing for them each time.

..... so a funny thing. I never finished reading the thing where you get it from for some reason. I had gone back to reading all previous things for clues and got it now. I feel dumb lol.

And I knew what to do with the main thing there. I can see why you like that.

I'm doing corners now to see what happens if anything. Seems like a thing to do.

That was also my experience. So many times I'd think, "this is OBVIOUSLY a clue, but to what??" However, the game will generally give you several different hints for the same puzzle, so sometimes you just need to keep playing to get enough pieces to make sense of them.

My notebook is 20+ pages of gibberish that apparently makes me sound like a serial killer so.
I made a comment to my girlfriend that the trope of an unhinged notebook left behind by somebody trying to decipher a mystery now made perfect sense to me, since my own notebook looks just like that. She agreed that she'd noticed that, and I'm still not sure if she meant her notebook also looks like it was written by a serial killer, or if she peeked at mine and agrees with my assessment of it.
