Me with my sweet Minecraft-playing surprise-redhead boy...(sorry not a selfie) (right before GW went down I posted a baby photo of him)
Aww, you both look so happy together ❤️
Fuck it. I need to work on my beauty routine, y'all make me seem boring.

Looking beautiful there, Mark!
There’s no teasing without opportunity though - here’s my own most recent pic that doesn’t have my kid in it.

This is the most hair I’ve had on the top of my head in a minute - one of my hair clippers broke.
Now that's a beard!

I can imagine the burglar, roaming into Mark's room, seeing him and his message in slumber, and putting the nuts and bolts they're stealing back and leaving quietly.

That's the game plan. Resolution without conflict. Problems sorting themselves out. Zero wasted ammunition.

Beats crabs in your southern beard.

Damnit, I was aiming for "gorgeous". I'll try again next time I wake up.

I'm really disappointed your reflection wasn't caught in the water for any of those shots. I was already geared up with "Found the ugly one."

Two kinds of people...

You're over there making a species of swans.

I'm wondering how the hell kut has his own lake.
...Truth. My property ownership resentment kicked in and I went into "make fun of him" mode...

I'm sorry I'm like this.

We bought a 100+ year old house on a lake that needed massive renovations, so we got it at a good price. It took 9 months for us to move in, and it still isn’t complete, but we have to be here now so my daughters can start school next week.

Some of the things that were discovered were:
- the second floor wasn’t wonky because the house settled over the years, but because the second floor wasn’t supported by anything in a few spots.
- No insulation in some exterior walls
- the ceiling light in the dining room was connected to an outlet illegally installed in the ceiling. That outlet was illegally connected to an outlet on the second floor and was always hot
- leaky diy plumbing

We decided we could change the inside of the house (which is also cursed with only 7 foot high ceilings), but not the location. We feel in love with the community and the lake front so we put an offer on it and won

Well, as someone that spent my teens and early 20's restoring my mom's 100+ year old house, I can tell you this much...

1. You're gonna find a lot of things not up to code, even in a well maintained property.
2. Hazardous material mitigation. Asbestos, lead paint, knob and tube wiring, vermiculite. All phrases you're gonna dread hearing, and you will thank your lucky stars if you don't.
3. Shifting. All houses shift. Older houses have had more time to, but, are generally sturdier than newer houses.

All of that aside, the skeleton of that house is probably gonna be way better suited for a full reno than a newer construction. You'll understand that "this house has good bones" phrase much, much more after the conclusion of your renovations.

I long for the day my youngest starts kindergarten and I'm not paying over $2000 a month for daycare... Maybe when I'm not renting a second apartment for my 3 year old, I'll be able to save for a down payment.

One of the floors was swanky. The rest...uh...

Also $2000 is on the lower side in certain places. I'm not even directly in Boston and anything that comes in around that price is really good.

I didn’t mention the vermiculite abatement from the attic

You and I are in a lot of the same clubs

nyc having free schooling from 3-k on up was a huge help to offset the high NYC rent
Yep. It's literally comparable to the rent for my townhouse. As Alu said, if I were in NYC or some more metro area I know it'd be even higher.

It's ridiculous.

I took the kids out kayaking earlier already... I came back to the rental after going to the store, while they went to the playground with mom...

I'm just not rushing to leave to go get them... :link
