TGVGD The Great Video Game Draft (n64 Draft)

Looking at the list, 9 games from my own collection have been picked (out of 20 or so).

Also, looking at total numbers, we gonna do about a quarter of the total library.

I only have 9 of the games picked so far as well. I don't have Castlevania, Banjo, Pokémon Snap, Mischief Makers, Conker, Mario Party, or Paer Mario.

Kirby 64 - The Crystal Shards

That is another game that eluded me. I think maybe I rented it once? I don't remember, but I've always enjoyed Kirby. I love Kirby's Adventure on the NES, and he's my go to fighter in the original Smash Bros.

I borrowed Kirby from a friend and never gave it back, so I guess I stole it.

It was worth stealing.

Kirby 64 was another one I almost went with there. One of the only two main Kirby games I've played much of and it's great. But because it was my first, I was spoiled by the ability to combine copy abilities and was so disappointed when I found out that was rare for the series.

Definitely starting to worry about the amount of people in this. I have a lot of my library left to go through despite owning only 7 of the ones picked, but if people keep making good choices things are going to start getting rough after probably the next round.

This is the version that has the most memories for me. I didn't get to play the fantastic Dreamcast version until I was living on my own. We didn't have a PS1 when I was growing up, either.

N64 is ALL nostalgia. Most multiplatform games were better on other systems (especially if they were released on the Dreamast), most of the Nintendo and Rare games got re-released on newer consoles or were made obsolete by newer games in their franchises.

NO ONE can say without rose tinted glasses that the controller and the blurry graphics were positives.

Everyone should go watch Thabeast play through the whole N64 catalogue. You'll learn about Japanese exclusives that were great (also horrible ones lol) and remember how fun other games were.

DK64 was definitely flawed. I enjoyed it, but it was no DKC gsme that we all loved. It wasn't as good as Banjo or Mario as platformer, but it was still great fun.

You gotta try playing it again fr fr. Hitboxes are all over the place. More out of alignment than my ballsack.

When we're younger, we're more likely to put up with bad game design. DK64 isn't bad, but it's definitely not good.

Head canon: chunky kong is just kiddy kong. When he got older he was bullied for still being called "kiddy kong" so he rebranded to "chunky kong" and started hitting the weights

The glitch story was denied by the game's lead artist, who said the bug was actually exclusive to one of the N64's specific revisions and was fixed before launch.

I remember Christina's first Big Purchase for herself with her high school job money was the green n64 that came with DK64.

Thank goodness the console had a handful of other good games because that being the first one was a huge letdown.

Branching paths, an option to speed up or slow down, tools that change AI behavior, an innovative scoring system, a low level of accessibility but high skill ceiling. It's top tier.
