How many tabs do you think you close in a day? Open too I suppose...

Is there an extension that can do this? I often wonder this, because I suspect my number is massive.

But - most of these are work related. I spend all day looking things up. At some point I wake up and realise "jesus I have 45 tabs open". Then that happens again.

I only have 34 open at the moment, so I'm doing well at keeping it minimal.

This morning, I had ten open on my phone just reading news and catching up on nothing. Conservative estimate, probably somewhere around 500 for me. I don't think I've ever had more than 30 open at a time, and that's pretty rare. I try to keep as few open as possible.

At work I think I typically have about 50 to 60 open at any given point these days. At not work I try to keep it to less than 10 if I can.

Only one browser, two instances between two monitors. But I will be opening a second browser soon just for watching episodes on a certain streaming services a friend is giving me access to. Because Waterfox doesn't play well with streaming services...ugh.

At work I might have like... 5-6 tabs open at once. That includes having email and JIRA open all the time.

My last partner was someone who had like 60 tabs open at once, and it always drove me barmy. I refuse to believe you're going to revisit a tab you opened a week ago and can now only see the icon because the tabs are so compressed.

EDIT: I guess to answer the open/close in a day part... Might close my browser window like 10 times throughout the day, technically reopening my homepage tab when I open it again. At work I might close like 30-40 tabs over the course of a day... I try to just open whatever I need in the beginning of my day and then just keep it open.

I currently have as many open as I do because I have a massive project going on that requires me to follow along 17 epics regularly. Then I have another 10 or so epics I need to check in on from different projects as well.

I might have a bit too much going on these days.

Normally I'd say I end up on about 150-ish. Normally I just move on from something once I've read it and never bother to close that tab.

I remember during the time I used Chrome I had a tab counter and it hit above 200,000 in the 3 or so years I defected from Firefox. This was a decade ago though.

I’m much more disciplined with my phone than I have ever been with a computer. Chrome has a few tabs that stay open at all times… a pinned admin panel tab for the wolf games, a tab for the forum home page, and then the regular Safari version of the forums for the actual posts I make. I also have a separate tab group for all of my repo-related stuff, which has probably 10-15 tabs at any given time. Back when I was actively in the field doing work, though? Man… I’d regularly crash Chrome.

On my phone, I only ever really have 2-4 open. If I end up with more, I tend to close the extra ones fairly fast.

On my desktop, usually less than 10 open at a time? 6 right now. I do end up opening and closing a good chunk, but it's probably less than 100 a day at worst. Often it's just opening a link or a video in a new tab, checking it out, and then closing it right after.

Oh, hundreds, easily. I read a lot of links off of news aggregators (though less so within the last couple of weeks), open multiple tabs for reference in Wolf, look up game help, you name it. Work has a lot of looking up reference materials and then closing the tab after I'm done.

At work I have about six tabs always open and the others usually get closed the same day. On mobile I'm currently at 35 tabs, which is pretty low for me. I kinda use tabs as bookmarks (I know, I know), so I have a tab group for recipes, a tab group for places I want to go, a group for stuff I'm looking at buying, etc. It often runs into the triple digits. My girlfriend calls them my emotional support tabs.

But if I keep a group of five tabs open, I probably looked at 50 things before narrowing it down to the five, so I definitely close a bazillion tabs through the day. Every time I close one accidentally and notice a few minutes later, I end up reopening a dozen tabs before I get to the one I want to restore.

On my phone, which is my main browsing place, I have about 35 tabs open, most of which are web novels I'm reading as new chapters are released, one is a GW one and some random others.

But opening/closing tabs I'd say about 10-15 a day.

I'm with Ben and FR, I consciously close tabs because once I have trouble reading the words on them I start closing.

At work I usually have one for our work portal and then one for browsing Internet.

I don't understand how people can have so many open at once unless you have a specific reason for it. I don't know computer stuff, but doesn't that slow things down after a while? At most I'll have like 10 or so open, and that's only if I'm doing something like going down a wiki rabbit hole or researching D&D stuff. If I can't read my tabs, it's too much of a pain in the ass to remember where everything is and I have to start deleting them. If I didn't shut down my laptop every night, I could see myself having my normal 2-5 open at a time maybe, but I need things to look clean. If there's a specific site I really need to remember, I'll just add it to my hundred bookmarks instead and never touch it again. I'm also part of the 99+ Emails gang because I don't use any of my email accounts for actual communication, so I don't care enough to sift through all the bullshit and unsubscribe from every ad.

Basically same philosophy as my room. Keep it looking decently clean at first glance while I hoard all my junk in an overflowing closet.
